Just a squirrel…

This image sums up an evening of googling. Google image search is one way I take my mind for jogs. I began looking through old sketchbooks today and I rediscovered some poignant religious-themed work that stood out (more to come) so I began searching online for inspirational imagery that might help me to build upon these.
After typing in “kneeling to pray” I stumbled across an image of a woman with a 1 Corinthians 13 tramp stamp (pardon the slang for those of you who might have ink in this region). Images like this are not captivating simply because of the obvious female form but for the blurring of moral boundaries.
As it integrates into the image I concocted, some might see this and immediately call sacrilege, but then does the same person who frowns at the biblical tramp stamp also take offense to the acorn’s replacing the sacred heart?
The expression, “just a squirrel trying to get a nut” popped in my head when I saw the depiction of Christ. When people see this image they see a “Jesus.” But this is not what Jesus looked like. Aside from the dramatically disproportionate eyes, the man wasn’t white. He was a dude. For me, the expression of “just a squirrel…” speaks to that. I think when we hear that expression, we hear someone who is talking about the daily grind - someone who is “just trying to make it” or “get by”.
a visual representation of the age-old argument pertaining to the divine nature of Jesus Christ.
