My friend John Hutto is working on his pilot’s license. Part of his training involves sorting through numerous aircraft maps like this one. This particular map shows St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, and I’m sure a few more if I waded through all the information. It’s amazing to know that there are a select group of people who not only know how to read these maps but are able to use them effortlessly. You rely on these people.
I took this map to a small print shop in the Cooper Young district of Memphis to see if the owner would be willing to risk the safety of his very expensive machine for my experiment. He was. We printed these large Spanish clipper ships onto it. I’m not sure where this project is headed but I do know that for now its a testament to the evolution of long-distance transportation.
